Our son has loved this truck. He uses small Lego bricks as garbage, and they pass through the auger into the truck's box with no problem. The arm extends from the truck's side and grabs the garbage can. The can is dragged over to the very side of the truck, then lifted and tilted over the opening. The lifting mechanism is very cleverly designed so that no 'garbage' will fall from the can until the lifting knob is slightly over-rotated, thereby opening the garbage can lid. Sounds complex, but it is well built, and has lasted us a year so far. The Bruder line is very tough, and the plastic is almost indestructible.

My two year old grandson's favorite days are Tues and Friday when the garbage truck comes by. The garbage man stops and talks to him. I (grandma) bought the side loader to match the "real one". The two year old figured out how the can attached, I couldn't!!
It was expensive so I shared the cost with my son. My grandson already has the Brueder dump truck and it is played with daily so I knew even though it was expensive, it was durable and good value.
It was deliver promptly in a HUGE box carefully padded.

This has been a favorite of my "almost" 4 year old for about a year. It's fun, durable and is played with on a regular basis. When friends come over, everyone goes for this garbage truck.
I like that Bruder doesn't use screws or glue. No breaks or problems. Just a great BIG, fun truck.

This toy is a huge hit with my son. Since the minute he got it, it has been a major focus of his attention. (He is sleeping with it as I write this). It is big, sturdy and attractive. Yes, it is plastic, but is very well built, with excellent detail and several moving parts to keep sharing children busy for hours.
The truck's side-loading mechanism attaches easily to the garbage cans. (We ordered the extra set, which makes for a longer garbage route.) Using a knob, the cans lift up and the contents are dumped into the bin. The "trash" is then moved to the rear of the truck by a spinning "compactor". Trash can be anything from paper scraps to plastic checker pieces. Then, the truck's rear can be lifted up, the back door opened, and the trash can be dumped out. The cab also lifts up to show the engine. It is really well designed.
The only drawback is that the cab doors do not open, so it is difficult to put anyone in the driver's seat. That said, it is highly recommended. I will definitely buy another Bruder product in the future.
